art/history: this is not hero worship. i repeat: this is not hero worship. innocent he may look, but here's a lad who made an extreme sport of burning-out-not-fading-away. he began life otd in 1957 & it almost immediately stacked the deck against him. though his mum loved him, their lives were chaotic & saw them bounce from lewisham to ibiza, tunbridge wells to clevedon &, finally, hackney. by 16, ziggy vicious here was a bowie aficionado with a developing lust for all things sartorial. in fact, it was his penchant for mooching about at vivian westwood's SEX shop that led him to his destiny. it was there that he met malcolm mclaren, who chucked him in a band with john lydon (who was a friend from technical college). two years later, he'd wake up in NYC's hotel chelsea to find his girlfriend, nancy, dead from a knife wound. he didn't know what had happened & we won't ever know, either. sid city roller wanted to be with his nancy, so he took an overdose. his mum & some friends sprinkled the ashes of john simon beverley's 21-year-old body over his beloved's grave & - just maybe - mr ferocious found peace at last.
