#art/#history - noirvember: i might be in trouble for the designation as film noir of 'compartiment tueurs' & 'le salaire de la peur', but i think they bear the hallmarks of the genre. yves montand, who died #otd in 1991, was certainly a rogue. discovered by edith piaf, he began as a music hall enertainer. soon enough, he was making films - & making trouble. he & simone signoret fell in love; but, during their 34 year marriage, yves did the dirty on her countless times - often landing in the tabloid press (most especially when he had a dalliance with marilyn monroe during the filming of 'let's make love'). he always charmed his way back into simone's heart, like a true film noir cad.
