art lasts longer than an expensive dinner

whether you plump for an original or a print, you'll also receive the story behind the image. most of these works were done as part of a project called art/history, so each relates to a specific date. i'm not suggesting that the subject matter isn't sometimes slightly tenuous, but there's always a link. feed your brain & feast your eyes.

peekaboo & coucou. ici truffaut. sci-fi nerds may recognise him as the scientist, claude lacombe, from spielberg's 'close encounters of the third kind'...but he's one of the founders of the nouvelle vague - the french new wave. born #otd in 1932, francois truffaut started his career as a writer for the critical review, 'cahiers du cinema'. he went on to direct the semi-autobiographical 'les 400 coups', followed by 'jules et jim' & 'l'argent de poche'. he & godard were once thick as thieves, but fell out over political differences. i forgive him for that. hope you will, too. if you can find a copy of his book, 'hitchcock/truffaut', cherish it.
