art/history: i like to think that these two iconoclasts are cavorting together again, making mischief - but let's talk about HER. if you know this dynamo, i reckon you can tell me when you first discovered her. she's impossible to forget & was much more than she appeared to be. yes, she snarled, wielded various power tools on stage & made electrical tape a viable option for nipple protection...but did you know that she played clarinet, was once a macrobiotic cook in london & was a vegetarian who spent her last years working in animal rescue? she could also play a mean game of ping pong in an astonishingly creative way. after having twice attempted suicide, she succeeded the third time. the world lost a fiercely beautiful wendy o williams #otd in 1998. i want to leave you with her words. shed a tear, then throw 'beyond the valley of 1984' on the record player & raise a nice cup of green tea to the high priestess of punk. 'i don't believe that people should take their own lives without deep thought & reflection over a considerable period of time. i do believe strongly, however, that the right to do so is one of the most fundamental rights that anyone in a free society should have. for me, much of the world makes no sense, but my feelings about what i am doing ring loud & clear to an inner ear & a place where there is no self, only calm.'
