#art/#history: it's so easy to be captivated by her physical beauty, but MM's soul was just as stunning. a voracious reader who also wrote poetry, her heart was open to the suffering of others & there are plentiful stories to illustrate how compassionate she was - but my favourite is how she used to pay for pigeons' freedom rather than see them gathered up from a NYC park to be killed & served in the city's restaurants. controversy still surrounds marilyn's death (#otd in 1962), but i think she grew too tired of this world.

take me home, sugar!
