#art/#history: is it possible to have a kindred creative spirit with whom you have no artistic overlap? no mind. i'll continue to be fascinated by the work of the master of colourful abstraction. born otd in 1866, in full possession of a gifted brain, this middle class muscovite studied law & economics, but remembers always being viscerally stimulated by colour. at the age of 30, he finally decided to pursue art & enrolled at munich academy. he went on to teach advanced theory at bauhaus, then settled in paris from 1934 until 1944. this is where his biomorphia bloomed & his craft was finely honed into his most recognisable style. he died at neuilly-sur-seine as a french citizen. wassily kandinsky had a lot to say about parallels between life, music & art. this is one of his best: 'colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. the #artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.'
