#art/#history: this was two years before she was elected the first black woman to hold a seat in the house of commons - when she was all of 33 years old. today, diane abbott turns 65 & she's still there in parliament as the shadow home secretary. above all, however, she's there - as ever - fighting for her constituents in hackney north & stoke newington. no, that's not true. she's in combat daily on behalf of the underprivileged &, sadly, against garden variety trolls of both the social & mainstream media stripes. vitriol is aimed at her simply because she exists...because she's an intelligent, forthright black woman. i'm not capable of putting forward the case as eloquently as jack monroe did in her article, 'we need to talk about diane abbott', so i urge you to read it (https://cookingonabootstrap.com/…/we-need-to-talk-about-di…/). in the meantime, i hope to see diane on the scene for years to come.
