art lasts longer than an expensive dinner

whether you plump for an original or a print, you'll also receive the story behind the image. most of these works were done as part of a project called art/history, so each relates to a specific date. i'm not suggesting that the subject matter isn't sometimes slightly tenuous, but there's always a link. feed your brain & feast your eyes.

art/history: cheating - or, as i like to call it, word associating - again for today's edition of the programme...because, for better or for worse, whenever i think of bertrand blier (born #otd in 1939), i always think of his film 'les valseuses'. known in the anglo world as 'going places', it starred our subject: patrick dewaere. i think he gave this otherwise deeply cynical film a touch of pathos - glimpses of which could be had when he interacted with jeanne moreau. if you have been paying attention to my scribblings, you'll know that i'm powerless when it comes to the melancholy that is (perhaps thinly) veiled in people's eyes. patrick has it in spades. no one is entirely sure why he decided, the day of a photoshoot after which he'd said 'a bientot' to his colleagues, to go home & punctuate his sadness with the barrel of a gun.
